Subject: One week to go

Dear Family Members

This note is to bring you up to date on the reunion. About 70 family members will be coming to the reunion. Please check the website http://www.holdenFam.org. Loring Holden has done a great job putting together the website, updating Diantha Lamb’s genealogy and indicating who (we think) is coming. He promises to continue to do so even during the reunion.

Our headquarters, a large work room in the Holden Leonard Mill, has been generously provided by John Goodrich whose company now owns the building. Our headquarters is on the second floor of the building. The entrance we will use is on the South West entrance at 160 Benmont Avenue, next to the Eiger Bike Shop.

Friday 23 April

Our room at the mill will be open from 3 pm until 7 pm. Please drop by and collect a name tag, provided by George Bickford and his sister Bea. We will have copies of a walking tour map of Bennington which has been developed by Janet Holden. Martha has put up an enormous family tree on one wall which has room for pictures and other memorabilia. We will have coffee and tea and fruit and you are welcome to bring  stronger spirits.  Bonnie Holden Carter has generously organized the mill room. We can always use volunteers to help in the clean up etc.

At 7 pm Friday we are all invited to the home of Ted and Norma Thomas for dinner. They live at Pippin Knoll in Bennington. Janet’s map shows how to get there.

Saturday 24 April

Headquarters at the Mill will be open from 9 am to 6 pm. Judy and Gary Glass have volunteered to help ensure that tea, coffee, fruit, granola, pastries are available.

At noon we will meet over lunch at the mill to meet each other and hear some presentations on the Holden family. We hope to take a family picture after lunch at the mill or at the Hanson Walbridge Funeral Home nearby.  This is the former home of John Stedman Holden.

Dinner on Saturday will be at 6:30 at the “Barn” which is the parish house of the 1st Congregational Church. This is located facing the monument on the east side of the circle. Martha Holden has kindly volunteered to lead a small cooking brigade to prepare this meal.

Sunday

Our room at the mill will be open from 9 am until 3 pm. We plan a farewell informal lunch at the mill at noon.

Activities

Walking tours, the Bennington Museum, Bennington Potters (an easy walk from the mill), visits to Holden Mausoleum, sports, hiking are all available and we imagine they will be organized by various family groups.

Please forward this message to any family members not on this list.

We look forward to seeing you.

Best regards

David
