Computer Science 0020 Fall 2009

Non-Collaboration Policy

All assignments handed in should be your own work. Collaboration among students on assignments is strictly forbidden!

Since the exams in CSCI0020 are not weighted heavily, your grade is based primarily on your assignments. As such, your assignments must be entirely your own work.

Collaboration on assignments is completely prohibited. Examples of collaboration include, but are not limited to: discussing techniques for completing assignments; copying all or part of an assignment or basing it on one done in a previous year; and seeking advice from individuals not presently enrolled in the course, including CIS consultants. Infraction of these rules will result in dismissal from the course and referral of your case to the University for disciplinary action. The Academic Code is unambiguous on the issue of cheating and collaboration. Please take this matter seriously, since the number of cases of collaboration has recently increased throughout the University. Being caught is unpleasant both for students and for TAs and professors.

Using the file system to access the files of another student or a TA falls under the category of collaboration as well and will also receive severe disciplinary action. The Academic Code has strict policies regarding tampering with the system in order to obtain information from or add information to files which are not your own. In Rhode Island, this is also considered a felony and prosecuted as such.

If there is the slightest chance a discussion may be getting too specific about an assignment, don't take a chance; ask a TA instead. TAs are here to help give you information about assignments and course material. TAs have been trained regarding how the assignments work, and what is expected of you for each assignment.

Any infringement of this policy will constitute a violation of the academic code of Brown University and may be enforced according to the guidelines set out in the Standards of Student Behavior.

I fully understand and agree to abide by all policies and rules contained herein. I also understand that I must sign and return this document before I will be given a CSCI0020 course account. Additionally, I am familiar with Brown University policies regarding collaboration.
