Your next project, Cartoon, has been posted. This is your first project that really lets you get creative! Design questions are due on the 18th and the on time date for the project is the 27th. We will be showing the most interesting ones in class so if you would like to earn eternal fame and the gawking awe of your peers this is your chance!

If you haven't seen the collaboration skit yet, you should check it out for a good overview of what you can and can't do with your CS15 peers.

The CS15 TAs hope you all had a smashing fall weekend! Now that you are all rested, we have a new project, GFX, for you to sink your teeth into. In GFX you will be building your own graphics package to use in your later projects. You'll be using it to make your own animations later this month. The Labs this week include time to work on GFX, so if you finish it on time you can have it checked off right there and then. It will take a bit longer than a regular lab would so don't worry if you don't finish. Just come to hours and ask a TA to check you off. The final due date is the 20th of October.

Lab 3 has been posted.

TASafeHouse DQ Clarification: We have a couple of clarifications regarding question 3 of the TASafeHouse Design Questions, specifically the containment diagram part. In your diagram, you only need to represent the classes you are creating and instantiating. You do not need to represent our support classes in your diagram. Also, for the purposes of this diagram only, it is ok to show that an inherited instance variable is contained within a subclass, even if this will not necessarily be reflected in your code. For example, under these circumstances, You could show in a diagram that your Audi class contains a steering wheel; however, the steering wheel, in your code, would be factored into your Audi's superclass, Car.

Take a look at our fancy Collaboration Skit if you haven't already! It's a deliciously easy way to get a good overview of what you can and can't do with others in CS15.

The assignment TASafehouse has been posted.

A note about TA Hours: Please remember the rules for TA Hours. TA Hours have been very busy; therefore we will be enforcing these rules even more. You may see a TA only once per hour. This means that once you see a TA, please wait an hour before asking for TA help again. This is meant as a time for you to work out your problem on your own. Also, you cannot put your name on the whiteboard before a TA has arrived - your name will be erased. You also cannot write another person's name on the whiteboard when you write your own. Thanks!

Lab 2 and the assignment References are both now available. References is due on the 5th of October.

Your next assignment, LiteBrite, has now been posted. Have fun playing with virtual plastic pegs! The DQs are due on the 26th and the on-time date of the project is the 1st of October. Get cracking, beat the rush and finish early!

Remember to check the Online TA before coming to a real one. It is especially worthwhile to take a look at our common compiler errors page.

Also, make sure to use the CS15 coding conventions. They will help make your code much more readable. You will also lose points on projects if you do not follow our coding conventions.

Only the first five rows of sunlabs seats are available to CS15 students during labs. If the lab is full you will be turned away and told to come later. Consider attending the emptier 8pm sessions. The TAs have been ordered to be truly ruthless in this matter so don't expect mercy!

Remember to print with cs015_print!

Lab 1 has now been posted. There is also a new TA of the Week. (There are actually two new ones because the web TA (i.e. me) messed up. So hunt around and call it an easter egg!)

2009/09/22

We grade the Design Questions almost immediately after they are handed in so that we can get them back to you as soon as possible and you can use them when working on your actual project. As the DQs are released and are available on the day they are recieved, we will not record grades for late handins. However we may be able to grade the questions, without recording the result, for your benefit when working on the actual project. Email the Head TAs with any questions.

Please only e-mail cs015headtas@cs.brown.edu with your questions and concerns. Also, if you do not yet have a CS account or if you have not taken lab 0, the head TAs will help you out. If you have not handed in a collaboration policy, please see a Head TA on hours and give us a signed copy.

If you are looking for a specific TA on hours, be aware that there will be some switches each week among the TAs. These changes will be posted underneath the TA Hours chart each week. Please check the TA hours chart before coming to see a specific TA.

Remember, Clock is due Thursday at 11:59 PM. Come see a TA on hours if you are confused or need help. When coming to see a TA, remember to print your code using cs015_print. This will print your code two sided, two pages per side, and save trees. To use this, make sure you are in the directory with your code, and type cs015_print *.java in that directory.

You must contact us if you do not yet have a CS account or if you have not taken lab 0.

The assignment Clock has now been posted. Please take notice of the due date now on the sheet and in the calendar as it has been pushed back a few days.

When coming to TA hours, please print out your code so we can best help you. Use the cs015_print command for easy economcial printing.

The first assignment, Objects, has now been posted at the assignments page. It is due at 10pm on September the 18th.

You do not need to sign up for labs on banner or mycourses. You should turn up to the lab most appropriate to your schedule. Lab options are listed on the Labs page. Bring signed collaboration policies to get a CS username and password.

Slides for the next lecture are always made available at the Lectures page. Should you want to bring printouts to the lecture, please help us save trees by using the 'printable' PDFs. They are four lecture slides to a page and perfect for jotting down notes.

TA Hours are now published. These are the times that you can come to the fishbowl and get help on assignments, so ensure that you are aware of them. TA Hours will start on Tuesday, when the first assignment, 'Objects' is posted. Additionally the Labs page has been updated with lists of people assigned to each session.
