There will be no lecture on Wednesday, November 7, as Pascal will be out of town that day. Feel free to use the extra time to work on Maze. :)

Check out the new single "RACE CONDITION" from the hot new band, "THE RISING EDGE."

The midterm is coming up soon! It will be on Wednesday, October 17, from 7-10 pm in the Metcalf chem auditorium. The exam will be open notes, and will cover all the material up to Moon III. Make sure to be prepared!

Also, there will be a helpsession for the assembly language editor mipscope on Monday, October 15, from 8:30-9:30 pm. This is the first year that CS031 is using mipscope, so be sure to go to the helpession so you know how to use it. If you can't make it, though, feel free to talk to any TA on hours.

After some technical difficulties, the diagrams that Pascal has used in his lectures about the Moon series are now up on the Lecture Slides page, labeled as "attachment." Also, diglog files of Moon I and II are up on the Docs page. Feel free to take a look at them if you need more help understanding how the Moon computers work.

The TAs will be holding RISC helpsessions in the Motorola room (the same place that class is held) at 5pm today and tomorrow. We'll be going over buses, RAM, tri-states, and whatever questions you may have. The two sessions will be identical so there's no need to come to both: we're only holding two because of the short notice. As always, if you can't make either helpsession feel free to talk to any TA on hours to get your questions answered
    Sept 19, 2007 [18:46]
There will be a diglog help session on Friday from 5-6pm in the Motorola room (the same place where class is held) with the amazing TAs abrindam and pdoran. You can find the presentation on the Docs page if you want to get started early.
If you can't make the helpsession, feel free to ask any TA on hours about diglog. We'll be happy to help you out.

This should have been noted a bit earlier, but with HW1 out TA hours have now started. Check the TA Staff page to find out when hours are being held. We're hoping to see you there!

It has been pointed out that there is a small error on problem 3 of HW1. The problem asks for the difference of octal 86126 and octal 55451. You may have looked at this and said "wait, something's not right here, the number 86126 can't exist in octal". Sorry about that, our mistake. The homework 1 PDF has been updated on the assignments page so that part of the problem now reads "c. 76127_8 - 55451_8".

Two important announcements for CS31 students:
  1. Please make sure you fill out and turn in your collaboration policy to the CS31 handin bin on the second floor (by the birdcage) as soon as possible. This is important for two reasons. First and most significantly, we cannot grade your work without a signed collaboration contract. Secondary to this is that initial mailing list subscription will be based on your logins as provided on these forms, so without a collaboration contract you will not be added automatically to the listserv.
  2. If you are new to the Brown CS department or don't have a CS login for any other reason, email cs031headtas [at] cs.brown.edu with your Brown ShortID (the one you login to webmail and most other Brown web services with) by Wednesday, Sept 12th before class and we will take care of getting you an account before the first assignment.
