The Sockets deadline has been extended 24 hours to 11:59pm on Friday, April 13th. All other deadlines are unaffected.

    • Join us to for professor Claire Mathieu's talk about her recent invention-- an algorithm for ranking players in a tournament (such as march madness)
    • Then, attend the career panel featuring Brown alumnae to get the scoop on what working as a computer scientist in industry is all about.
    • Stay for the sit down reception afterwards and meet current computer science students.

STL Links Up

We've put some extra links up on the Docs page that point to some STL references and a list of available classes. Check them out if you're feeling ambitious. Remember there's no lab this week. We'll cover the STL in lab after break.

Final Project Doc is out!

If you recall our mail to the mailing list a few weeks ago, we told you to start thinking about final project groups, and who you'd like to work with. The pdf for the Final project is now out under the assignments page. There are a series of deadlines for this project, and you can't use your late days. So, get started now! When you've figured out who's in your group, e-mail the TAs.

Lab Cancellation!

We're pushing the lab back one week to make sure we're on schedule with the content in lectures. Next week's lab will be on QT, a GUI and graphics package for C++, which will require you to know a little bit about C++.

Myalloc Extension

As noted on the mailing list, there's a 1-day extension on Myalloc. It is now due at 10PM on Friday, 23 February 2007. The deadline for launcher is UNCHANGED.

We still do not have collaboration policies from everyone, so please be aware that you will NOT GET CREDIT for this week's lab, or mastermind, if you do not have a policy in. You can hand it in during class or lab to any member of the 36 staff. Thank you.

Sign up for a lab time by going to: CIS Lab signup page. The first lab is next week on January 31st and February 1st. Please sign up for ONE lab time, you are committed to that time for the rest of the semester.

Welcome to cs36!

CS 36 is a systems programming course intended for sophomore (and higher) computer science concentrators and others interested in systems programming.  We will cover the C and C++ programming languages, and provide a strong introduction to interacting with unix/linux operating systems. The official prerequisite is CS 31.

The first class will take place on Thursday, January 25 in CIT 368 at 2:30 (K Hour). Looking forward to see you all there!
