change to shading assignment

Posted Oct. 17 2008 by bjm

Please render 1024x768 images of your shaded mugs and objects and hand in with the maya files. Also include any texture images. We are eliminating the part of the assignment in which we give you a shader that you have to describe. You still have to describe your own shader in your REPORT file. The handout has been updated.

Converting 2d projects to hires

Posted Oct. 10 2008 by bjm

In order to put your 2d projects on the class DVD, you need to rerender them at video resolution as a series of frames. The step-by-step instructions for doing this are found here and are also linked off the Resources tab. Please do this by Thanksgiving. If you get it done by Oct 31, you will earn an extra free late day.

Shading assignment

Posted Oct. 03 2008 by bjm

The shading assignment has been posted. A few files and tutorials have not yet been posted for it, but will be early next week. PLEASE NOTE: the second set of tutorials are due the same day as the progress because we are missing a class over the long weekend. We are allowing you to determine your own schedule to get them done, but you will NOT be able to get your shader progress ready if you wait until the last minute to do the tutorials. You've been warned!

Handing in

Posted Sep. 06 2008 by crsmothe

So handin works, but there are a few temporary inconveniences. 1) You must type the full directory of the handin script: "/course/cs125/bin/cs125_handin" 2) Cygwin might not work. If so login to a linux computer (press "scroll lock" on a computer with a large monitor twice to get linux) and open a shell and submit from there the same way you would in cygwin (cd into the folder you want to submit and run the handin script). Hopefully this finds you only slightly frustrated and if you run into any trouble e-mail the ta's or come to hours.

Welcome to CS125 2008

Posted June 3, 2008 by bjm

In this course you will be introduced to the process of making a short computer animated film from beginning to end. It's super fun and usually a lot of work. To learn more about the course, click on Course Info. Also check out the new CS125 FAQs. We are still getting the website ready for the semester, so excuse any broken links, etc.

To take this course, you must attend the first meeting on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at 1:20pm in CIT 367. If after the first class you want to take the course, you should fill out an application. Applications are sent via email to those students who attend the first class and are due the next morning. The class list will be available by Friday morning, Sept 5 and only those admitted will receive written permission to take the class. There are no fixed prerequisites for the class, but you must have some in-depth background in either computer graphics or in some aspect of visual art. If there are more than 20 qualified students, I select based on class seniority, experience, enthusiasm, and how this course fits in with your plans. Hope to see you at the first class! In the mean time, you can read about the course in the missive and syllabus.
