TA Waitlist: The TA Menu

Starting it up

  1. /u/tawait/bin/tawait
Just type it in a shell. I suggest aliasing this or putting the waitlist bin in you path.
    Optional arguments:
    • -c [course you TA (ie cs015)]
If you do not do this, it will ask you for the class.
    • -u [your TA account]
You can use this to run the waitlist from an account other than your TA account. The waitlist will check that you are in the TA group.
  2. Enter your password.
This is the password to your account, not the password for tawait.
  3. Start helping students.

What you see:

               TA Menu
               1) Give me another person
               2) Add person to top of waitlist
               3) Remove person from waitlist
               4) Update screen now
               5) Do not allow any more students to add themselves
               6) Kill waitlist
               7) Quit menu (does not end waitlist)

            Enter your choice (1-7) -->

The Options

  1. Give me another person
This is the option you will use most often. When you are ready to help the next student, choose this. Be sure to answer yes or not to if the student is there. Shortcut: tanext.
  2. Add person to top of waitlist
This can be used to put a student at the top of the waitlist. This is meant to deal with mistakes such as a student being accidentally removed. There is no way to add students at arbitrary positions in the middle of the list.
  3. Update screen now.
Above the menu, you can see the names and accounts of the people on the waitlist. This is updated at regular intervals, but can be forced to update with this command. This only changes the visual display. It is not needed to perform any other commands on the waitlist.
  4. Do not allow any more students to add themselves
Note: there is currently no way to reverse this choice!
This disables students from being able to add themselves from the student menu. The motivation for this is when TA hours or almost over, and there is a long line, you may want to finish helping the students already on the waitlist, but not allow any more students to add themselves.
  5. Kill waitlist
This will end the waitlist. All menus running on other nodes will die too (the next time they try to update). You can not retrieve the list of people who were on the waitlist once this has been done. Shortcut: takill.
  6. Quit menu (does not end waitlist)
This just quits the menu. It does not affect any other menus running elsewhere.
