Past Events

2008-2009

Kabob & Jobs
Microsoft and WiCS teamed up to feed Brown CS undergrads Kabob and Curry while discussing résumée-building and successful interviewing for technical jobs. See our résumée resrouce page to download Janete Perez's helpful hints on job-hunting.
Arrested Development Marathon
What's better than three hours of Arrested Development? Three hours of Arrested Development and home-made frozen bananas, that's what!
Cupcake Bake-a-Thon
In the thick of midterm season, WiCS took a break from their studying to bake and decorate cupcakes while listening to appropriately-themed music.
Shopping Period Pizza Party
In the spirit of shopping period, Brown's two-week add/drop program, WiCS and GWiCS met up to try new and exciting pizza toppings without the risk of committing to something that sounded good but just didn't jive with us. Upperclasswomen were on hand to advise younger students on which courses to take.
Lunch with Real Live Women in Computer Science
Our wonderful WiCS alumnae will occasionally drop by to buy us lunch and talk about their fabulous lives as industry professionals and academic rockstars.
First-Year Luncheon
Sometimes, it's tough to be a freshman and feel like you don't know anyone in the department. One of our goals at WiCS is to bridge the gap between frosh and upperclasswomen through low-key events like this. It's a great chance to make connections and meet mentors.
Kabob and... Internships?
We tried to come up with something as catchy as "Kabob & Jobs", but the best we could come up with was "Kab-internships 'N' Internships", and that was kind of lame. Nevertheless, the food was delicious, and we got to "pick the brains" of Microsoft recruiters (and Brown alums!) about the ins and outs of applying for internships.
Pi-Day Pie-Baking Extravaganza!
On March 14, WiCS teamed up with our friends at MathWiSE to celebrate everyone's favorite irrational number! Pies baked (and eaten) included pecan, chocolate mousse, pumpkin, banana cream, wild berry, and apple--all the major players.
