The effect on the previous page is known as "Color Contrast." The theory states that certain opposing colors are enhanced by each others presence, just as light regions are enhanced by neighboring dark regions through lateral inhibition.
Just as with dark-light contrast, there are retinal ganglion cells with lateral inhibition for red-green and blue-yellow contrast. It is, therefore, no coincidence that these color appear to heighten each other's intensiy.
