Interactive Video Installation

I was interested in capturing visceral reactions to random pictures present in a private booth. I captured pictures of the viewers, which were then added to a collage that was projected onto the wall of the gallery. This effectively made the private reactions public. I used a webcam along with matlab to do real time video processing n to determine when people were in the booth. Collage creation and display was done with java.

Untitled (Performance/Site-specific Installation)

Wouldn't it be great if we all had a huge red arrow that always told us the best direction to go in life? Well, I decided to make one, and sure enough it ended up breaking! Figures.

Other Sculptures

I made several installation based sculptures during 2006 for a class. For one, I used ideas similar to my "tree frame" in an traditional installation atmosphere. My other sculpture pictured below entailed stringing together hundreds of glow sticks and breaking them all at once.

Crux Frame

Rock climbing involves complex and very decisive motion. I was interested in capturing a person completing a climb, and turning it into something similar as the "tree frame" below. I did this by doing background subtraction, then adding frames to a single image. This gives an idea of the dominant body positions the climber assumes. I then printed this "cumulative image" very large and transfered it to plexiglass. It has not yet been installed at the climbing location.

Other Sculptures

I made several sculptures during 2005. Most notable is "tree frame", which strove to illuminate a particular shape in a tree. I did this by taking a picture from a specific viewpoint, tracing the shape of the tree, then cutting out the shape from plexiglass. Lastly, the plexiglass was suspended infront of the tree to orient with the original photograph position.
