I am a PhD candidate in the Brown department of computer science. My advisor is Dr. Michael Black.
I graduated from Illinois' experimental public residential high school IMSA in 1992, began my undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) and received a B.S. in computer science from Cornell University in 1996. I worked for the Cornell Theory Center and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory before running ToFish! (sold to Time Warner) and Interfolio.
I currently own, operate, and live in a 3-unit multi-family building in the armory district of Providence's west side. The two rental units are seldomly available, but information about them (including a visual tour) is available here if you are curious. The building is an American civil war era building and maintaining it allows me to practice many of the skills I learned while growing up on a small farm in Illinois.
I play many sports including softball, football, and basketball. I run, albeit slowly now due to chronic knee and hip injuries, and I bike (road). I play the trumpet and can hold a tune. I am a member of IEEE and the West Broadway Neighborhood Association (WBNA). I have traveled extensively. I invent things. I write. I enjoy working in my garden.
I am engaged to Karen Fuerherm who does not maintain a web presense.
