Having always been interested in scientific research, but still having a love for computer graphics and its related fields, I decided to combine the two and look for jobs in scientific visualization upon graduation. I was fortunate and found the match in a position at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center as an aerospace technologist supporting research in the Earth and space sciences.
Some projects include ViSBARD, the Visual System for Browsing, Analysis, and Retrieval of Data, "A Tour of the Cryosphere", MHD Explorer, reengineering of the Polar, Wind, and Geotail ground data system, ILIADS, the Integrated Lunar Information Architecture for Decision Support, and a space physics coordinate transformation package (as used by USGS' mesmerizing EarthNow!).
At Brown, I have taken courses on robotics, virtual reality design for science, parallel/distributed computing, environmental remote sensing, interdisciplinary scientific visualization, forensic computer vision, and a three-semester research project.
