Math Correction
Although mathematical expression recognizers have gotten to the point where they are starting to see use in real applications, recognition errors are bound to occur. Therefore, intuitive user interfaces for preventing and correcting recognition mistakes can make them less frequent and burdensome. The focus of this project is to design novel user interface techniques for assisting users in correcting recognition mistakes and avoiding them in the first place. A specific example of a particularly valuable application of the proposed research will be to allow entry of mathematical expressions into documents such as papers, perhaps as a drop-in replacement for Microsoft Equation 3.0.
