Dovecot IMAP Information
Dovecot determines how the mail is physically stored on the email server, and does not affect client applications (such as Thunderbird or Outlook).
All new users since January 2008 are already using the dovecot IMAP servers.
The dovecot server provides:
- Server side indexing: increases performance by reducing network traffic during random message access and searches
- Mailbox standardization: support for two type of backend mailbox formats
- Directory standardization: minimizes the effects users can have on each other as a result of misconfigured clients
INFO will help you decide if Maildir or mbox format is right for you.
Mbox Migration contains the instructions needed for migration to mbox format.
Maildir Migration contains the instructions needed for migration to Maildir format.
