X Servers For Remote Machines
If you want to run graphical programs on a CS department machine and display them on a remote machine, you need to have an X server on the remote machine. Here are some pointers.
These products are listed as a convenience to our users and are not supported by the CS Department.
Windows
Xming is the leading free X server for Windows.
Another option is to install Cygwin, a free Linux-like environment for Windows. It includes a version of XOrg for Windows.
OS X
OS X includes an X server. If it is not already installed on your system, you should be able to install it from the CDs that came with your computer.
Linux/Unix
X is the window system used with virtually all Unix and Unix-like operating systems. If X is not already installed on your system, it should be readily available from your OS distribution.
