Marlin Linux Release

The Summer, 2004 release is from Debian "Sarge." Marlin was frozen on Thursday, June 17th, 2004 and includes selected packages from Debian "unstable."
The last release was codenamed "Dory" and was frozen on January 14th, 2004. It, too, was a snapshot of "Sarge."
The exact number of packages installed on our desktop machines varies over time, but at the time of this upgrade Dory had 1588 and Marlin had 1608. 172 packages were removed (though some were replaced by new packages with different names) and 197 new packages were added, for a net increase of 25 packages.
The tstaff compiled a complete inventory of the 1362 packages added, removed or upgraded in the transition from Dory to Marlin:

Dory to Marlin Upgrade Highlights
Here are some of the more notable changes that accompany this upgrade:- Cxterm
- The asian-language xterms are no more.
- Fvwm
- Fvwm underwent a major revision, from 2.4 to 2.5, that may affect some user's config files.
- Gcc 3.0
- Version 3.0 of the Gnu compiler tools is no longer available. (Other versions are still around, of course).
- Gs
- Ghostscript (gs) bumped up a major version number, from 7 to 8.
- KDE
- All KDE apps moved up a rev from 3.1.4 to 3.2.2.
- Mozilla
- Mozilla moves from 1.5 to 1.6 with this upgrade. Firefox is also included.
- Netscape 4
- Netscape 4 is history. It is no longer available. Use a more modern browser, such as mozilla.
- NVidia kernel modules
- The proprietary nvidia graphics drivers go from 4496 to 5336.
- XFCE
- The alternative lightweight desktop environment (ala' Gnome or KDE) jumps a major rev from 3.8.18 to 4.0.5.
- XFree86
- The X server and accompanying libraries and applications move from 4.2 to 4.3.
Kernel Version: 2.4.25
All machines continued to run 2.4.25.
