Coral Linux Release

The Semester I, 2004-2005 release is from Debian "Sarge." Coral was frozen on August 25th, 2004.
The last freeze was codenamed "Marlin" and was frozen on Thursday, June 17th, 2004. It, too, was a snapshot of "Sarge."
The exact number of packages installed on our desktop machines varies over time, but at the time of this upgrade Marlin had 1630 and Coral had 1646. 38 packages were removed (though some were replaced by new packages with different names) and 45 new packages were added, for a net increase of 16 packages.
The tstaff has compiled a complete inventory of the 739 packages added, removed or upgraded in the transition from Marlin to Coral:

Marlin to Coral Upgrade Highlights
Here are some of the more notable changes that accompany this upgrade:- Gnome
- Gnome moves from 2.4 to 2.6.
- Gaim
- Gaim bumps up from .77 to .80.
- KDE
- KDE goes up a minor rev from 3.2.2 to 3.2.3.
- OpenOffice
- The OpenOffice suite of applications moves from 1.1.1 to 1.1.2.
- Vim
- The popular vi clone, vim, jumps from 6.2 to 6.3.
- Xemacs
- That other editor, xemacs, moves up from 21.4.6 to 21.4.15.
Kernel Upgrade: 2.6.8
All kernels on all desktop machines were upgraded from 2.4.25 to 2.6.8. The new kernel sports better performance, NPTL threads and lots more.
