Dory Linux Release
|
The release codenamed "Dory"
The semester 2, 2003-2004 release is from Debian "Sarge" which was very close to release quality. Dory was frozen on Wednesday, January 14th, 2004 and includes selected packages from Debian "unstable."
The last release was codenamed "Nemo" and was frozen on August 31, 2003. It, too, was a snapshot of "Sarge."
The exact number of packages installed on our desktop machines varies over time, but at the time of this upgrade Nemo had 1259 and Dory had 1441. 152 packages were removed (though some were replaced by new packages with a different name) and 334 new packages were added, for a net increase of 182 packages.
The tstaff compiled a complete inventory of all packages added, removed or upgraded in the transition from Nemo to Dory:

All kernels on all machines were upgraded to 2.4.24, requiring a reboot. Most kernels were 2.4.21 before the upgrade. Toward the end of the semester, all machines were again upgraded, this time to 2.4.25. A 2.6 kernel was made available on a limited basis.
