Minicourses
Minicourses are short lectures by consultants on various aspects and features of our computing environment. They are meant both to be generally informative as well as to expose you to new tools and features.
A set of minicourse sections are held once a semester, typically within the first four weeks of class. Each minicourse is held in the first three rows of the sunlab (CIT 143).
Intro Minicourses
The first set of minicourses is aimed to introduce basic concepts to students. Thus there are minicourses on such topics as Unix permissions, a general introduction to Unix, a how-to for remote login as well some information on how to customize your desktop.
In-depth Minicourses
The second set of minicourses deals with more advanced and in-depth topics. In this set we cover all of the intro minicourses as well as minicourses on the Emacs and Vi(m) text editors as well as advanced Unix topics.
Open Topic Minicourses
There will be two minicourses that have no specific topic. You may attend this session and ask consultants any questions you have about any of the topics we list or anything else you think of.
Minicourse Schedule
Here's the minicourse schedule for the Spring 2005 semester:
| Mon 3/21 | Tues 3/22 | Wed 3/23 | |
| 7:30pm | Unix Intro | Emacs | Permissions |
| 8:15pm | Advanced Unix | Vim | Cusomization |
| 9:0pm | Remote Login | Customization | LaTex |
Slides
In case you can't make any of the times listed, the slides for each
minicourse are available. Keep in mind that these slides were written to assist
a consultant while they are giving a lecture and thus are probably not as
informative as actually attending the minicourse. That said, you can still
learn a lot from the slides. As always, if you have any questions or problems,
talk to the consultant sitting at 9a.
