BOSPRE 2007 at Brown University, Providence

This year Brown is one of the sites for the preliminary round of the the Northeast region of the ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest.

BOSPRE 2007 is a cooperative effort between the two host sites (Brown and Tufts), and Harvard, which provides judging and problems.

The contest will be held in the "Sunlab" on the 1st floor of the CIT, which houses Brown's Computer Science department. The department has a page with directions to the CIT, or use Google Maps with the address 115 Waterman St, Providence, RI. There are Amtrak arrivals at 8:49am and 9:30am. The train station is a 15-20min walk to the CIT. For drivers, parking is not that hard. When very close to the CIT, there tend to be 2 or 3 hour limits though. I can get parking passes, for $7 for a lot just outside the CIT. Please email me ahead of time if you want one.

The cost for the contest is $75 per team. Checks should be payable to "Brown University Computer Science"

Schedule for Saturday Oct 13, 2007

9:00-9:45 Arrive at Brown. Breakfast will be available outside the contest room.
9:45-10:00 We will review the rules of the contest.
10:00-3:00 The actual contest! (in the Sunlab)
12:00-4:00 Lunch will be available for contestants to eat as they please during this time. The food will be upstairs to avoid losses to roaming scavengers (please don't eat in the Sunlab).
3:00-4:00 The final scores will be released, and we may discuss some problem solutions.

Should any problems arise, or you would like to ask some questions, please call me (jj) at (617) 642-2151. I will be nearby and available on this number throughout the day. I should be able to ensure wireless network access for the coaches during the contest.

Coaches may want to know where to find food throughout the day, or teams may want to get an early dinner before leaving. Your best and closest bet is Thayer St, which is about 100 ft from the building the contest is in. Besides a few sit-down restaurants, Thayer St has four pizza joints (Antonio's and Nice Slice are recommended over Pizza Express), two Mexican places (it's worth it to pass Gordito Burrito for Bagel Gourmet Ole), two Kabob-ish places, two Sandwich places (prefer Meeting St to Geoff's, but expect big sandwiches), Chinese, Indian, Au Bon Pain, Starbuck's, and Tealuxe. There's also a Subway, a Sushi Shop, and a Thai place on Waterman, before you even get to Thayer. You should be able to eat!
