My parents live in Mt. Lebanon, where I grew up. Their latest passion is their garden railroad which now takes up much of the backyard. My dad likes to build and run the trains while my mom puts in the buildings and does the landscaping.
My father, Chuck, was the CEO and investment manager for the now defunct Dollins Symons Management, Inc.. In his spare time, he is building a live steam engine for the garden railroad. He and some friends have also written two hex-based civil war board games on the computer, the battles of Antietam and Gettysburg.
My mother, Anabeth, taught mathematics at Penn State University's McKeesport campus and is now quite happily retired. In addition to the garden railroad, her interests include quilting and genealogy, tracking her family's history from Slovakia. She has her own web page at Penn State.
For others who are interested in genealogy, this is a chunk of my family tree.
My younger sister, Liza, graduated from Mount Holyoke College in 1993. For a few years, she taught mathematics at The Madeira School, an all girls' high school near Washington, DC. During the summers, she earned a Master's in Mathematics at the University of New Hampshire. She is now running her own clothes dyeing business: Liza's Textiles.
