Introduction

Many important documents of literary interest have complex textual histories, as they were copied by hand for centuries, with the inevitable introduction of errors and variations whose significance is now a matter of argument. Collation of diverse texts is an interesting problem, but too difficult for a class project. Browsing, displaying, and querying the results of collation is a feasible project, however.

The goal of this project will be to provide a convenient interface for scholars to use an apparatus criticus using the Text Encoding Initiative's tags for textual variants as input.
