IntroductionMany important documents of literary interest have complex textual histories, as they were copied by hand for centuries, with the inevitable introduction of errors and variations whose significance is now a matter of argument. Collation of diverse texts is an interesting problem, but too difficult for a class project. Browsing, displaying, and querying the results of collation is a feasible project, however. The goal of this project will be to provide a convenient interface for scholars to use an apparatus criticus using the Text Encoding Initiative's tags for textual variants as input. |
