Computer Science Graduate Study at Brown
Why should you study at Brown? We offer an excellent environment for research and education in computer science. Our faculty, students, location and resources are some of the reasons that make us an outstanding choice. Please read more about why you should study at Brown.
Graduate study at Brown falls into two main categories:
The Ph.D. Programand
The Sc.M. (Master's) ProgramNote that the two degree programs are kept separate. PhD students can earn a master's degree automatically on the way to completing their PhD, but students admitted for a master's cannot automatically transition to the PhD track. Therefore, students should apply to the program that they intend to eventually complete.
For Brown undergraduates there is the option for staying a fifth year in the department and obtain a Masters degree. Check the Fifth Year and Masters Information page.
To apply to our programs, please read the separate information on graduate application.
For more information about the professors, courses, research areas and programs of study, you can consult our Research Publications page, though of course our Web site is the best source of information on what we're currently doing and what activities are in progress. You can also get a sense of the department's goings-on (and lighter side) through our high-quality periodical, conduit!.
