The next session of the Computers, Teaching and Course (Re)Design Seminar will be held on Thursday, April 22nd, at the Sheridan Center for Teaching & Learning (96 Waterman Street), from noon until 1:30 p.m. We'll discuss articles in a recent issue of Interactive Learning Environments that raises a number of questions about the relationship between the use of communications and information technology on campus and undergraduate education reform. A hint at a different approach to the subject can be found in Clay Shirky's "Situated Software". Shirky teaches in the Interactive Telecommunications Program at NYU.
The CTCR Seminar is hosted by the Senior Fellow for Teaching and Technology at Brown, Roger Blumberg of the Department of Computer Science, and focuses on the ways that higher education faculty across the country are using digital technologies and networked computing to rethink teaching, course and curriculum design, as well as the undergraduate academic experience at liberal arts institutions similar to Brown. Information about the Seminar, including schedules, session descriptions, archived materials, and links to background readings will be available at this site throughout the year. Notes from the first CTCR session can be found at: http://www.cs.brown.edu/~rbb/ctcr/ctcr.oct23.html, and notes from the November 20th sessions can be found at http://www.cs.brown.edu/~rbb/ctcr/ctcr.nov20.html.Links to the Reports from the Pew Program in Course Redesign, discussed by Carol Twigg at the March session, remain on the March CTCR announcement page: http://www.cs.brown.edu/~rbb/ctcr/ctcr.mar19.html.
The April session of the CTCR Seminar will be the last of the 2003-2004 academic year.
